Welcome to Black Dog Walk

Are you an animal lover who wants to make a difference? Help us spread awareness about Black Dog Syndrome, consider adopting a black cat or dog from the shelter, or join a group of animal saving crusaders in your area. You can help save a life!

Mission
Black Dog Walk is a non-profit organization run totally by loving volunteers who are dedicated to helping shelter "underdogs" and "undercats" be seen for the truly amazing and beautiful individuals they are so they can find the loving homes they deserve.  We serve as a resource to help local shelters increase the number of adoptions and decrease the number of animals euthanized by bringing homeless pets into the public eye at local adoption events, educating the public about Black Dog Syndrome and breed-specific discrimination through flyers and events; encouraging the public to choose adoption from shelters over purchasing from commercial breeding sources and to be responsible pet owners, including spaying/neutering, and positive behavior training.  By working with our corps of dedicated volunteers, loving foster homes, caring local veterinarians, and rescue organizations we have been able to help rescue and facilitate adoptions for over 500 dogs and cats from our local shelters in the 2-1/2 years that we have been organized.

Description
In September of 2009, the Black Dog Walk began walking together to raise awareness about Black Dog Syndrome. As the pack began to grow, the need to help black shelter animals became more apparent and the group started walking dogs from the Ogden City Shelter in downtown Ogden every Saturday afternoon, all year round. This was a very successful way to give the dogs exercise, raise awareness about homeless shelter animals and Black Dog Syndrome, find loving homes for the dogs, and meet new compassionate animal lovers in the area.

In November, 2010 the Ogden City Animal Shelter closed and the Ogden City, Roy City and Weber County Animal Shelter merged together. Since December of 2010 the Black Dog Walk has been walking and showcasing shelter dogs at local adoption events held every Saturday. See our events calendar to find out more about upcoming adoption event locations and times. You can find our success stories in our "Adopt" tab. Without the hard work and dedication of the South Ogden Animal Shelter, Weber County Animal Shelter, and the Black Dog Walk these adoption events would not be possible. If you are an animal advocacy group and would like to join forces with us, please contact us and let us know how we can help.

We are dedicated to giving a second chance at life to local Shelter pets, not just black dogs and black cats, by providing them with exposure to potential adopters through social networking and weekend/special event adoptions; by locating and transporting to foster homes and rescue groups; by offering financial and medical assistance for special needs; and facilitating spay/neuter either through education, transport, or financial aid.

If you live in the area, please visit the new Weber County Animal Shelter (1373 North 750 West, Ogden, Utah) and spend some time with the animals available for adoption.

Hours for adoptions are Mon thru Fri 8:00 – 6:00 and Saturdays 8:00 – noon.

Please spread the word about the new and improved facility and check out the list of adoptable pets at Weber County Animal Shelter:
